In the management of trauma victims sonography plays an ever increasing role. It enables rapid, precise and non-invasive diagnosis of injuries to internal organs, mayor vascular injuries as well as the presence of i.e. free fluid or air.
We offer a 3 day basic course for those physicians (surgeons, radiologists and anaesthesiologists) involved in trauma management. This course focuses on the requirements of emergency ultrasound integrating the fundamentals of diagnostic ultrasound imaging.
The course starts with principles of ultrasound to refresh basic understanding, followed by normal examination of abdominal organs and potential injuries, always including hand-on training sessions. The second day concentrates on central and peripheral vessels and introduces the use of ultrasound contrast agents. Sonography and contrast-enhanced sonography findings are compared with CT findings, the reference standard technique. The schedule of the third day comprises sessions about vascular injuries, vascular complications after interventions, emergency ultrasound at the intensive care unit as well as follow-up examinations of traumatic bony lesions.
For the improvement of your ultrasound skills the training is accompanied by live-demonstrations and extensive hands-on exercises. The final goal of this training is the correct and independent performance of an ultrasound examination in trauma victims.
At the end of the course you will receive a certificate which follows the German or where applicable European Guidelines for Certification for the specific course level.
