Abdominal and General Ultrasound is one of the gold standards in medical diagnostics. It is a valuable and efficient tool to assess a variety of organ pathologies.

In 2004, the departments of radiology, surgery and gastroenterology/ hepatology of Munich University Hospital Großhadern established an interdisciplinary centre of excellence in all fields of abdominal and general ultrasound performing more than 16.500 examinations per year. Our Ultrasound Center has conducted various comprehensive training courses for physicians and other health care professionals involved in abdominal, vascular, interventional, contrast enhanced and general ultrasound.
During several days of intensive interactive training the participants are introduced to the theory and practical applications of abdominal and general ultrasound in

The principles of the technique, normal ultrasound anatomy, vascular pathologies and the clinical interpretation of sonographic findings are discussed in interactive lessons with ample visual material. Imaging is compared to modern MD-CT using a 16 or 64 row scanner, high resolution 1,5 and / or 3 T MRI and PET-CT. A comprehensive syllabus accompanies these lessons. The theoretical sessions are followed each day by intensive hands-on practical training in small groups supervised by experienced abdominal and general ultrasound specialists.
The training program includes the knowledge base recommended by the European Federation of Societies for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (EFSUMB).
