Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology

Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology has proved to be a useful imaging tool for clinical problem solving in a variety of gynecological disorders. The value of ultrasound examinations depends heavily on the preparation of the personnel carrying out the examination and the technical capabilities of the equipment they use. The Ultrasound Training Academy Dubai provides you with all important skills and techniques in handling modern ultrasound devices. The training program encloses diagnostic considerations in prenatal medicine and gynecology.

Prenatal Medicine:

First Trimester: Exact measurements of the crown-rump length determine the date of delivery. Another major topic in this part is nuchal translucency-screening. We will discuss special features in multiple pregnancies such as chorionicity and amnionicity in twins. The importance of markers for chromosomal abnormalities in different gestational ages as well as the possible diagnostic techniques to determine the fetal karyotype invasively (amniocentesis, chrorionic villus sampling, fetal blood sampling) are highlighted.

Second Trimester: The course program includes intrauterine non-invasive diagnostics such as ultrasound detection of fetal anomalies in various organ systems (CNS, heart, pulmonary-, gastrointestinal-, urogenital tract, neural tube, and skeletal-system). The technique of screening for (pre-)eclampsia will be tought.

Third Trimester: The importance and variability of fetal growth monitoring by biometrical measurements is discussed and demonstrated. Placental pathology, pathological amount of the amniotic fluid, special risks in multiple- or otherwise complicated pregnancies lead from prenatal diagnosis to intrauterine therapy. We will evaluate different techniques (needling procedures, endoscopy, and open surgery), indications, complications and prognosis of pre- and postnatal therapeutic options.

Doppler: Today Doppler-sonography is recognised to be the gold standard in the surveillance of the growth restricted fetus. Therefore functional parameters in the feto-maternal circulation are leading to direct obstetrical consequences. We focus on the relationship of ultrasound data to other monitoring parameters in fetuses.

3D: To draw a picture of the future in prenatal diagnosis 3D-ultrasound in terms of telesonography and modern ultrasound training devices is demonstrated.

Gynecology:

Concerning gynecological transvaginal and transabdominal ultrasound standards of sonographic diagnostics in the female pelvis, ultrasound in urogynecology, breast sonography and minimal invasive interventions in the gynecological patient will be part of the course program.

Documentation:

Documentation is important in order to lay down the results of the examination. This is essential in terms of communication as well as in terms of counselling the patient. We want to work on style and content of such reports.
